Colson Montgomery and Jacob Gonzalez homered to guide the visiting Chicago White Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Tristan Peters notched three hits for Chicago, which had lost three of four. Chase Meidroth chipped in with two hits for the White Sox.
Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh homered for Philadelphia, which had won eight of its last 10 games. Adolis Garcia knocked in the other run for the Phillies, but it wasn't enough to overcome another rough outing by Andrew Painter (1-7).
The White Sox scored four runs in the first inning.
Painter opened the game by hitting a batter and yielding a walk before Andrew Benintendi delivered a single to make it 1-0. Following another walk, Painter allowed back-to-back run-scoring groundouts by Meidroth and Gonzalez to put the visitors ahead 3-0.
Peters followed with a double on the 11th pitch he saw from Painter, making it 4-0.
After a 42-pitch first inning, Painter settled down in the second frame. However, the third inning presented more issues, as Painter allowed solo home runs to Montgomery and Gonzalez as the margin grew to 6-0.
Bohm's line drive homer in the fourth brought the Phillies within 6-1.
Two innings later, Marsh sent one into the seats in right-center to make it 6-2. Later in the frame, Garcia recorded an RBI single off Sean Newcomb to get Philadelphia within 6-3.
Newcomb worked a 1-2-3 seventh and then pitched around Marsh's one-out double in the eighth.
Grant Taylor came on for the ninth and promptly logged his second save.
Chicago began the game with reliever Brandon Eisert on the mound, and he had no issues in the first inning.
Sean Burke (3-3) followed and carried Chicago into the sixth. In all, the right-hander gave up three runs, three hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Painter allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.
