Pitt coach Jeff Capel is scrambling to get the Panthers back on track, and so far not much is working.
The Panthers (5-6) host Binghamton (3-8) Wednesday in an attempt to stop a three-game losing streak.
'We work on defense, we work on offense and we work on all kinds of different groups,' Capel said. 'We just haven't been able to sustain what we have to do to be good.'
The Panthers are coming off a 79-61 loss to Villanova on Saturday. The Wildcats used a 17-4 run to end the first half and a 9-0 run and a 10-0 run in the second half to put the Panthers away.
'We get down and we drop our heads,' Capel said. 'So instead of a 7-0 run, it becomes a 13, 14, 16-0 run. We have to show we can be consistent and figure out how to bring it all out, all the time.'
The Panthers are led by senior forward Cameron Corhen with 13.6 points per game and 8.9 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Brandin Cummings scores 12.8 points per game and senior guard/forward Barry Dunnings Jr. averages 11.9 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Senior guard Damarco Minor has shown signs of stardom this season but is only averaging 11.1 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Binghamton was the victim of a big second-half run Saturday as well when Central Connecticut used a 20-4 run early in the second half to win going away 84-67.
'We couldn't stop them,' Binghamton coach Levell Sanders told binghamtonbearcats.com. 'They have a dynamic scorer and guys who can make shots. They will be a tough out in the Northeast Conference. But giving up 84 points is way too many ... we have to get better defensively and improve overall.'
The Bearcats are led by senior center Demetrius Lilley, who is scoring 16.4 points per game and pulling down 10.2 rebounds.
Junior forward Zyier Beverly averages 12.2 points per game and 5.4 rebounds while junior guard Jeremiah Quigley is scoring 12.1 points per game.
The Bearcats are scoring 65.5 points per game and giving up 73.6.
