The Houston Astros unconditionally released first baseman Jon Singleton on Tuesday.
The Astros informed Singleton on Sunday that he didn't make the Opening Day roster.
Singleton played in a career-high 119 games last season while batting .234 with 13 homers, 13 doubles and 42 RBIs.
He struggled in spring training this season, batting just .171 with a .239 slugging percentage in 41 at-bats. He didn't homer and had one double.
Singleton, 33, has a .198 career average with 29 homers and 104 RBIs in 269 games.
He was the eighth overall pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009 and made the majors for the first time with Houston in 2014. After the 2015 season, he didn't play in the majors again until 2023 when he split time with the Milwaukee Brewers and Astros.
Singleton was twice suspended for marijuana use and the Astros released him after a third failed test in 2018. He was out of baseball for three seasons and played in the Mexican League in 2021 before the Brewers signed him to a minor league deal in 2022.
