Tyrese Maxey recorded 29 points, eight assists and a career-high eight steals Monday to lift the host Philadelphia 76ers to a 113-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
After getting named an All-Star Game starter for the first time earlier Monday, Maxey took over down the stretch for Philadelphia, which had lost three of its last four games. Joel Embiid added 30 points and nine rebounds for the Sixers, while Kelly Oubre Jr. pitched in with 18 points.
Andrew Nembhard scored 25 points and Pascal Siakam had 24 to pace Indiana, which has followed a three-game winning streak by losing three of its last four games. Jay Huff contributed 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks for the Pacers.
Indiana finished with 24 turnovers, including six by Aaron Nesmith and five by Nembhard.
With Philadelphia leading 89-88 with just more than eight minutes left, Maxey scored eight quick points to give the hosts a bit of breathing room. His floater capped a 8-1 run, giving the Sixers a 97-89 advantage.
With five minutes left, Embiid drained a 3-pointer to make it 100-91. Maxey drove for a layup and then found Embiid for an easy bucket as the lead ballooned to double digits.
Jabari Walker provided the exclamation point with a 3-pointer that made it 107-91.
Maxey scored 11 points in the first quarter and Embiid added 10 as Philadelphia led 33-30 after 12 minutes.
The Sixers were ahead by five points early in the second quarter before the Pacers went on a 13-1 run to go in front 45-38 on Tony Bradley's layup. Indiana led by as many as 10 in the quarter before VJ Edgecombe and Maxey got Philadelphia within 55-50 at the break.
Early in the third quarter, Huff's 3-pointer gave the visitors a 58-51 lead. However, the Sixers quickly caught up at 61-61 before going on to lead 82-81 after three quarters.
