Jakob Chychrun scored two of Washington's five second-period goals and the visiting Capitals routed the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-3 on Saturday.
Martin Fehervary and Brandon Duhaime each added a goal and an assist for Washington, which has points in their past seven games (4-0-3). Pierre-Luc Dubois had three assists for the Capitals, who are 12-1-6 in 2025, and Logan Thompson made 29 saves.
Washington's Alex Ovechkin did not score and remains 16 goals from breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL record of 894.
Sidney Crosby scored his 18th goal of the season for the Penguins, who have lost three of four, and Philip Tomasino had two assists. Alex Nedeljkovic allowed five goals on 14 shots before being lifted in the second period. Joel Blomqvist stopped 14 of 17 shots the rest of the way.
The Capitals took a 1-0 lead at 5:13 of the first period when Andrew Mangiapane's pass across the low slot deflected in off Ethan Frank's skate.
Kris Letang tied it 1-1 at 18:21, scoring on a one-timer from the left circle off a pass from Evgeni Malkin on a power play.
Fehervary put Washington ahead 2-1 at 1:10 of the second period when he converted a pass from Duhaime on a 2-on-1 rush.
Crosby tied the score 2-2 when he put a backhander between Thompson's pads on the rush at 6:36 of the second period.
Chychrun put the Capitals ahead 3-2 at 10:38 when he eluded a defender in the left circle and put a low shot past Nedeljkovic.
Chychrun made it 4-2 at 14:17, scoring on a wrist shot through traffic from the top of the left circle.
Off the ensuing faceoff, Aliaksei Protas took a stretch pass from Rasmus Sandin, split the defense and scored on wrist shot at 14:25 to increase the lead to 5-2.
Tom Wilson made it 6-2 at 18:45 when he deflected Fehervary's shot from the left point.
Dylan Strome increased the lead to 7-2 at 13:11 of the third period, scoring on a wrist shot from the right circle during a power play.
Danton Heinen pulled the Penguins within 7-3 at 14:22, and Duhaime scored at 17:19 for the 8-3 final.
